Innovation Fund Call for Proposals: € 1 billion for clean technologies
Are you focusing on the development of clean and ground-breaking technologies? And are you looking for financing? As from 7 July 2020, you can apply for financial support from the Innovation Fund. The EU makes € 1 billion available for new, low-carbon technologies.
Innovation Fund for energy-intensive industries
The first call for proposals of the Innovation Fund targets Large-scale projects and is intended for companies looking for funding for new, clean technologies. This should include large-scale, promising and commercially-viable projects that offer a solution for energy-intensive industries, such as the steel and cement industry and the chemical sector. The call offers also scope for projects focusing on energy storage. Furthermore, innovative solutions for the electricity grid and carbon collection and storage are eligible for grants.

The call is specifically targeting the financing of large-scale projects involving an investment of at least € 7.5 million. You could receive funding of an amount up to 60% of the capital and operational costs. This grant is intended for bringing the technology to the market. Hence, the received grants must be used for commercialising the project and the large-scale set-up and execution of demonstration projects. Your project may be carried out in all EU member states, including Iceland and Norway.
For this call, € 1 billion has been made available. Are you working on a promising project, but it is not ready for the market yet? Then you can still submit a proposal and receive subsidy in support of project development. A budget of € 8 million has been reserved for this specific target group.
Application and assessment
The Innovation Fund offers two calls for proposal. The first application can be submitted from 7 July up to 29 October 2020. The second call for proposals will end on 23 June 2021. All submitted applications will be assessed with regard to quality. The criteria are:
- the potential to decrease greenhouse gases;
- the innovative potential;
- the financial and technical maturity;
- the scale-up potential;
- the cost efficiency.
The support offered by the Innovation Fund forms the perfect follow-up after realisation of a Horizon Europe project. And are you looking for financing for the development of a new technology?
