For those who are innovating and aim to roll out their innovation and/or research not only in the Netherlands but also in Europe or outside Europe: there are multiple instruments to support you in your innovation process.


Multiple instruments exists for accelerating your innovation: grants, loans, fiscal incentives and blended finance options. What instrument best suits your needs depends on your company size, activities, the development phase your product and/or company is in and need for partners. We can help. The largest innovation programs explained: 

Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020 is the biggest research and innovation program of Europe. €80 billion euro is available for the best research and innovation projects in Europe for the period 2014-2020. Horizon 2020 is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe's global competitiveness. Different calls are published on societal challenges, consortia with the best research or innovation ideas receive funding. 

Tip for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs): the EIC accelerator: this programs support high potential SMEs with groundbreaking ideas to bring their innovation to the market. Recently the program has included a ‘blended finance option’. This allows SMEs to receive a grant up to € 2.5 million for the development of their innovation and additionally to receive equity for scale up. 


Eurostars supports international innovative projects led by R&D performing SME. With its bottom-up approach, Eurostars supports the development of rapidly marketable innovative products, processes and services that help improve the daily lives of people around the world.  It is an ideal first step in international cooperation, enabling small businesses to combine and share expertise and benefit from working beyond national borders.

Interreg program

Interreg is designed to stimulate cooperation between member states of the European Union on different levels. One of its main targets is to diminish the influence of national borders in favor of equal economic, social and cultural development of the whole territory of the European Union.

European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)

The EIT was created to drive innovation in Europe by supporting innovators across Europe to turn their ideas into reality. SMEs can receive funding for bringing their innovation to the market. There is also a special program for start-ups.
