Innovation funding

LIFE

From growth to thriving

LIFE supports innovative projects aligned with EU environment, nature conservation and climate policy.

About LIFE

LIFE supports innovative projects aligned with EU environment, nature conservation and climate policy. If your company is involved in developing or implementing this policy, you may be eligible for funding. LIFE programmes promote and provide funding for close-to-market projects, pilots, demonstrations and best practices.

Who can apply?

Any organisation based in the European Union can apply, from small businesses to large corporations, government agencies and NGOs.

Rules for funding

LIFE supports projects that will have an impact on environmental issues, nature conservation and climate action. The LIFE Climate Action sub-programme invites project proposals that address climate change. The LIFE Environment sub-programme invites project proposals that address resource use, nature conservation, biodiversity and communication of environmental policy. You must show how your project will have a positive impact. LIFE projects run for an average of two to five years. The average application is for funding of between €2 and € 5 million. Grants cover between 55% and 70% of the overall project costs.

Applying for funding

Applications for the Climate Action sub-programme can be submitted in September each year. Applications for the Environment sub-programme undergo a two-stage process. Applicants are required to submit a ten-page concept note in April. If the proposal is provisionally approved, you will be invited to submit a full application in September. These are highly demanding application processes and we recommend that you find out more about them well in advance.
