Working towards a sustainable maritime sector with EMVAF subsidy
Are you active in the maritime sector and do you want to invest in sustainable innovation? Then the EMVAF, the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund, offers interesting subsidy possibilities. The programme offers opportunities for the entire sector and all facets are addressed. As long as the emphasis is placed on nature, the environment and the climate.
The EMVAF is the successor to the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund. The programme was set up for the period from 2021 up to 2027. Entrepreneurs and other initiators who want to carry out projects in line with the European maritime policy can make use of the openings. Examples include the stimulation of the transition to sustainable fishing, but also innovative projects that boost the economy in coastal areas whilst protecting nature. The main focus areas of the programme are:
- the promotion of sustainable fisheries and conservation of marine biological resources
- the contribution to food security through competitive and sustainable aquaculture and markets
- the facilitation of the growth of a sustainable blue economy and the promotion of prosperous coastal communities
- the establishment of safe, secure, clean and sustainably managed seas and oceans.
The programme has not been finalised yet but will focus on at least the following four themes:
- Trawler fishing innovation
Development towards fishing with less seabed disturbance, unwanted by-catches, waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
- Data collection and enforcement
Development and procurement of hardware and software for digital checks and catch records.
Investment in more nature protection, less harmful fishing and offshore wind farms.
- Aquaculture and processing chain
Investment in improving the profitability and sustainability of the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Innovations and investments must contribute to strengthening of the chain.
Apply for subsidy
The EMVAF is implemented both centrally and regionally by individual EU countries. This means that there will be openings per Member State, which will be published during the complete duration. The available budget of €6.11 billion for the entire period is partly open to the SME. Specific requirements will be published for each opening. In general, organisations that contribute in an innovative way to the sustainability goals will be eligible for a subsidy.
