New call for proposals for LIFE Climate Action funding in 2020
The application period for funding under the EU LIFE Climate Action programme is now closed. The popular funding programme will issue a new call for proposals in 2020.
Funding for climate projects
The LIFE Programme for the Environment and Climate Change is an EU funding programme for projects that tackle climate change. The programme was set up to promote cooperation within and between Member States to create solutions that will help the EU achieve environment and climate objectives. The programme is open to operational and educational projects of all sizes.
Almost any organisation with a relevant project idea can participate, be it a small business, a large corporation or an NGO.
Calls for proposals
The programme is divided into two sub-programmes, one for the environment and one for climate action. Both issue calls for proposals. In 2019 the two sub-programmes had a budget of € 57.7 million. When the application period closed on 12 September, 166 applications had been received for a total of € 280 million.
- Adapting to climate change: € 211 million (67 applications)
- Mitigating climate change: € 347 million (65 applications)
- Climate governance and information: € 70 million (34 applications)
The proposals are currently being assessed. The European Commission is expected to inform applicants whether they have been successful in February 2020.
