What are the success factors of an application?

In general, success of an application depends on to what extend the project matches the demands of the innovation program. All innovation programs are designed to deliver certain outputs. Hot topic these days is CO2 reduction, so an innovation program might for example search project that present a cost-effective solution for CO2 reduction in industrial processes. In general, success depend on the excellence of the (to be developed) technology, the business case and the team.

What are our experiences with innovation programmes?

We have around 20 experts that apply for different innovation instruments: from regional to European programmes. We are organised such that we have sector and instrument specialists, for example we have consultants that focus on the automotive industry and consultants that are active in agribusiness. We have consultants that focus on certain innovation programmes such as Horizon 2020, which is the largest European Research and Innovation program. Additionally, we collaborate together with our Corporate Finance consultants for debt financing and funding rounds.

What is the success rate of proposals/applications?

It depends on the instrument. Some instruments have a success rate of 95% assuming all requirements set out by the instrument are met. However, there are also instruments that are very competitive resulting in a success rate below 20%.  The abovementioned success rates are based on the number of application received, the success rate of our consultants are higher. We know the insights of an instrument and we use that to make a solid case.
